Lemon, Lavender, Rosemary, Oh My!! Using Scent to Enhance At-Home Learning & Working
We are in our third week of virtual school. We have already deconstructed our Pinterest-inspired classroom setup 4-5 times due to dueling Chromebook audio feedback and kiddos with tiny heads & ears who do not like wearing headphones. Now that we (hopefully) have found spots for each family member to learn/work from, I’ve been thinking about how to customize each person’s work space based on their personality and learning/working habits.
While I do this for corporate clients, I am curious to see how it may work for this transitional time where more and more of us are creating makeshift at-home school and work environments. Depending on your individual needs or your child’s, here are some scents to consider for achieving certain behaviors and performance.
Energy
- Lemon helps boost mental and physical performance.
- Peppermint helps spark concentration and focus.
- Cinnamon is a great scent to help fight post-lunch fatigue.
Calm
- Jasmine helps ease anxiety and bolster confidence.
- Lavender is widely known for its calming properties, it can be great to try when transitioning from recess back into learning time.
- Orange helps ease worries and increase tranquility.
Memory
- Rosemary has been known to improve memory and cognition.
I will see how using a diffuser and different essential oils based on our individual needs goes and report back. I would love to hear about your experiences with using scent to enhance your new learn/work from home environments.
